Aspen and Snowmass Colorado Weather
Aspen and Snowmass's climate and weather patterns are typical of the Rocky Mountain region with very low humidity and intense sunshine. Sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended for all seasons. Because mountain tempatures can vary, it is best to bring a selection of clothes for the season that you can layer.
Summer:
In the summertime the Aspen area weather is warm and dry with daytime temperatures that can reach a high of 90+ degrees. Brief afternoon showers are frequent, so bring a raincoat. Evening and night-time temperatures drop to 50 degrees so a lightweight coat or warm sweater will be necessary.
Fall:
Snowmass and Aspen's fall weather is generally warm and dry, although cold weather can occur, and it can snow in the surrounding mountain ranges. Daytime temperatures can reach into the upper 70's, dropping to the 30's at night. A warm sweater and lightweight coat is still a good idea for evenings. The last two weeks of September and the first of October offer spetacular fall foliage with the Aspen Trees turning golden.
Winter:
Aspen is renowned for its warm winter sun. Daytime temperatures range from 20 to 40 degrees in town and from 10 to 30 degrees on the mountain. Once the sun goes down, the temperature drops dramatically. Cold spells below zero are not uncommon, so be prepared with thermal under garments and a warm jacket. Layering is the best clothing plan, adding and subtracting clothing as the weather conditions and tempatures change. Snow boots or all weather shoes with good traction of the soles will help you get around without slipping.
Spring:
The spring weather in the Aspen and Snowmass region ranges from warm, in the 60's to cool, near freezing, both day and night. Showers and snowfalls are possible; so don't forget to pack a jacket.
